Overview: ASCI's File System Event Provider for WMI:The "ASCI File System Event Provider for WMI" is a FREE utility, developed by Advanced System Concepts, that provides event notification capabilities for the Windows 2000/NT File System and is to be used in conjunction with Microsoft's Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) system. The "ASCI File System Event Provider for WMI" can detect the creation, and/or the updating of any file within a Windows 2000/NT environment for the purpose of triggering events within user applications and utilities. With the introduction of this capability for Windows systems, applications can now be "notified" that a required file has been created, copied, modified or FTP'd into a specified directory or onto a specific system. The "ASCI File System Event Provider for WMI" provides a powerful alternative to other methodologies such as "polling" which checks, on a schedule, to see when the required file has arrived. The "polling" approach consumes systems resources and can detract from overall system performance. Using The "ASCI File System Event Provider for WMI" a user could simply specify the file or directory and a WMI event would be declared when the file is created (and populated). Or when used in combination with a job scheduling system (e.g. ActiveBatch) the creation of a file within a specified directory can initiate a job or process.
