ActiveBatch Version 6 offers robust capabilites for easier workflow integration of SSIS, DTS, SQLBlock, and more

Release date: 5/14/2007

ActiveBatch Version 6 Now Offers Scriptless Scehduling with a Robust Job Library including SQL Server integrated workflows, Log-in Protected “Virtual Root" access and more!

PARSIPPANY, NJ – (May 14th, 2007) – Recognizing the need among enterprises for greater control and integration of their critical process automation tasks, Advanced Systems Concepts, Inc. (ASCI) today announced it has developed a new version of ActiveBatch®, its industry-leading job scheduling product for Windows™, UNIX, Linux and OpenVMS systems.  ActiveBatch Version 6 proactively supports the growing transformation of batch processing and job scheduling software from simply a back-office workhorse to a strategic corporate solution, providing both accountability and empowerment to those who must access enterprise data on a daily basis.
ActiveBatch V6, a major evolution of the product, offers a number of new features that add convenience, control and flexibility.  Among the primary improvements are:

  • Virtual Root, a pioneering new feature that turns ActiveBatch into a “multi-occupancy” job scheduling solution.  Virtual Root gives individuals, work teams, departments and even business units log-in protected access to those particular objects, jobs and plans appropriate to their job descriptions.  Once a group’s particular access point is organized, its plan or plans are isolated from access by others, thereby preventing inadvertent changes.  As part of the new feature, the ActiveBatch job plan has been updated so that all objects can be maintained and managed from within a plan or nested plan.  With Virtual Root, ActiveBatch’s high performance capabilities are more fully utilized by sharing the job scheduler across departments, divisions, making it the perfect solution for ASPs and SaaS initiatives.
  • New Audit Compliance Capabilities that enable CFOs, CIOs and other audit-focused personnel, internally or externally to create or establish policies for modifying objects in the ActiveBatch job scheduling system.  Audit policies can be defined requiring full, limited or no documentation as desired; policies also allow the creation of custom fields and other variables that control user input and provide easy visual tracking of changes as they are made.  The capability records a description of each change, who authorized the change, and provides a comparison of revisions to monitor and control changes in accordance with defined internal audit policies as well as ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Built-In Job Libraries that eliminate unnecessary scripting and more easily integrates jobs into job steps for designing workflows.  The new, extensible libraries reduce the development and organization of workflows to just a couple of questions, after which ActiveBatch does the rest.  Job types that can be quickly assembled into compound job flows include SQL Server, DTS, SSIS, ZIP, and Secure FTP jobs, among others.
  • Expanded Capabilities that now support all ActiveBatch platforms including Windows, UNIX,

Linux and OpenVMS-based systems.  In Version 6, ActiveBatch’s file trigger capabilities have been expanded to include non-Window systems, so that users can initiate jobs or job plans based on the creation, modification or deletion of a file from any supported platform; they can also view log files and specify wild cards as needed.  The upgrade ensures that ActiveBatch’s new file triggers—an improvement that improve service levels by starting jobs based on the occurrence of a specific file event instead of time-based triggers alone—now removes slack time regardless of operating system.  Finally, ActiveBatch Version 6 expands its “silent push” installation of ActiveBatch onto non-Windows systems in addition to it already existing support of Windows based systems.
Leading Industry Trends
ActiveBatch Version 6 reflects the most cutting-edge strategic business initiatives today, particularly the growing need of enterprises to establish consistent policies for user and process accountability.  “As IT and the business process become increasingly inseparable, IT Operations has to be in a position to provide necessary compliance information for regulations such as Euro-SOX, Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards, Basel II and Gramm-Leach-Bliley,” said Milind Govekar, Research VP for Gartner, Inc., a leading IT research and consulting firm.  “Thus job scheduling tools that automate some of these mission critical business processes should provide operational control and data to the businesses to demonstrate compliance.”

“The hallmark of ActiveBatch has always been its remarkable balance of flexibility and ease-of-use.  Version 6 continues this tradition by giving IT administrators’ robust new capabilities that address the priorities of today’s enterprise,” said Jim Manias, Vice President of Marketing and Sales for Advanced Systems Concepts.  “With the advent of Version 6, enterprises can now gain greater control and accountability over their data and processes than ever before, while still giving employees the exact functionality they need to do their jobs.”
ActiveBatch Version 6 is scheduled to ship in late April 2007.  The version will be available for licensing as well as through an automatic update for companies participating in ASCI’s ActiveBatch Annual Version Upgrade program.  For more information, or to obtain a license quote on ActiveBatch Version 6 job scheduling, log on to www.advsyscon.com.
