Advanced Systems Concepts Announces Plans For ActiveBatch® V4 Support Of New Microsoft Windows® Server 2003 64-Bit, AMD Opteron™ Processor-based Products

Release date: 5/10/2004

64-Bit Solutions from Microsoft and AMD will Together Provide New Level of Speed, Performance For ASCI’s Leading Job Scheduling and Management System

PARSIPPANY, NJ – (May 10, 2004) – Advanced Systems Concepts, Inc. (ASCI), a leading provider of system software solutions that enhance Windows®, Linux, UNIX, and OpenVMS systems, today announced its intention for ActiveBatch® Version 4, ASCI’s industry-leading job scheduling and management application, to support 64-bit computing using the AMD Opteron™ processor and upcoming Microsoft Windows Server 2003 for 64-Bit Extended Systems.  The move heralds a new and even more powerful computing platform for ActiveBatch, giving users greater ability to manage large, sophisticated production environments.
ASCI, which has been testing Active Batch on the AMD64 platform with impressive results, also is making the new version of ActiveBatch Version 4 available to customers via download for evaluation in 64-bit environments.
“ASCI is extending its 32-bit support to include 64-bits in order to take advantage of the enhanced power of this exciting new architecture,” said Bob Anderson, ActiveBatch Product Manager at Advanced Systems Concepts, Inc.  “Many enterprises are needing to handle more robust jobs and larger applications.  By supporting 64-bit computing, ActiveBatch is accommodating these new production challenges while also providing a viable migration path from existing 32-bit environments.”
High-Performance Computing
Microsoft Server 2003 for 64-Bit Extended Systems, now in beta deployment and scheduled for general release in the second half of 2004, provides high performance for both 32-bit and 64-bit applications on the same system.  The underlying architecture is based on 64-bit extensions to the industry-standard x86 instruction set, allowing existing 32-bit applications to run natively on 64-bit extended processors such as the AMD Opteron processor.
With 64-bit computing, operating systems and software are able to process more data and access tremendous quantities of memory.  AMD64 products such as the AMD Opteron processor provide an industry-standard approach to 64-bit technology, combining innovation and simplicity to deliver advanced levels of performance.
“The AMD Opteron processor provides an exceptional backbone for business-critical applications such as task management,” said Ben Williams, director of AMD’s Server/Workstation Business Segment. “The AMD64 platform eases the migration path to 64-bit computing for businesses large and small, offering a dramatic performance improvement.”
Industry-Leading System
ActiveBatch allows customers to automate and coordinate the processing of complex production-level tasks, jobs, and programs in a reliable and secure manner.  Jobs can be coordinated across single or multiple servers and operating systems including Microsoft Windows XP, 2000, and NT, as well as Linux, HP TRU64 UNIX, Sun Solaris, IBM®AIX, HP-UX and OpenVMS.

The broad range of capabilities available with ActiveBatch provides a comprehensive strategy for coordinating, managing, and monitoring single and repetitive applications and jobs.  Scheduling can be implemented through a wide range of criteria including date, time, system resources, dependencies, triggers, and events.
