Advanced Systems Concepts Announces Worldwide Capability For ActiveBatch® Wireless Client

Release date: 7/13/2004

New Client for Java-Based RIM® BlackBerry Wireless Handheld™ Devices Allows Global Remote Interface with ActiveBatch Job Scheduling and Management System

PARSIPPANY, NEW JERSEY – (July 13th, 2004) – Advanced Systems Concepts, Inc. (ASCI), a leading provider of system software solutions that enhance Windows™, UNIX, Linux and OpenVMS systems, today announced the debut of a new, Java-based ActiveBatch Wireless Client™ for BlackBerry Wireless Handheld™ devices developed by Research In Motion® Limited (RIM). The client, when installed in new-generation GSM/GPRS BlackBerry units, enables global remote manageability of servers and applications using the ActiveBatch® Enterprise Job Scheduling and Management System.
ASCI’s new ActiveBatch Wireless Client offers the same powerful functionality and features as the company’s existing wireless client solution. The application notifies administrators using a BlackBerry device of critical situations occurring in enterprise networks and applications managed by ActiveBatch; users can then act to remedy the situation by direct reply.
“With operations staff and system administrators constantly on the go—sometimes overseas or in far-off locales—it becomes essential to provide extended geographic coverage,” Jim Manias, Vice President of Marketing and Sales at Advanced Systems Concepts, Inc. “Our new Java-equipped ActiveBatch Wireless Client provides the world-class—and worldwide—connectivity these professionals need via GSM/GPRS networks. Now, admins need never be out of touch. Even across the globe, the new ActiveBatch Wireless Client puts designated users in constant contact with mission-critical systems.”
New Command Console
Also new with the Java-based ActiveBatch Wireless Client is an advanced Command Console featuring a Graphical User Interface (GUI) for faster, easier entry of important commands and system instructions. The Command Console requires less keyboarding than prior clients, simplifying usability and management of the ActiveBatch system.

ActiveBatch’s use of powerful alerts permits the sending of email messages to designated personnel that describe the precise nature of a developing system situation. The ActiveBatch Wireless Client, installed on the BlackBerry handheld, receives and presents the alert message in an easy-to-understand format so that appropriate action can be taken via direct reply.
For example, a system administrator might be notified of a job failure via BlackBerry and elect to resubmit a failed job using ActiveBatch commands or initiate other corrective actions or jobs as appropriate to positively affect what has been described in the alert. A “return-receipt” provides end-to-end acknowledgement that the operation has been received and processed by ActiveBatch. ASCI’s BlackBerry solution also employs strong encryption to ensure the authentication, integrity, and confidentiality of all transmitted ActiveBatch Wireless Client data.
Models, Availability
ASCI’s new Java-based ActiveBatch Wireless Client is supported on a full range of BlackBerry models including all 5000-series, 6000-series, and 7000-series products. BlackBerry models 850, 857, 950, and 957 models host the original (C++) ActiveBatch Wireless Client. Both wireless clients are priced separately from the ActiveBatch Job Management and Scheduling System. ActiveBatch Wireless Client for GSM/GPRS BlackBerry handhelds is now shipping.
