Advanced Systems Concepts Releases ActiveBatch® V7 Service Pack 2, Offering Multiple Add-Ins And Enhancements

Release date: 12/8/2009

Four Add-In Extensions Support Interaction With Oracle, SAP, VMware and Microsoft SCOM Platforms, Giving ActiveBatch Users New Abilities to Manage Jobs and Workflows

MORRISTOWN, NJ – (December 8th, 2009) – Advanced Systems Concepts, Inc. (ASCI), maker of ActiveBatch® workload automation and job scheduling software and other solutions that enhance Windows™, Linux, UNIX, z/OS and OpenVMS systems among others, announced today the release of ActiveBatch V7 Service Pack 2.  The pack incorporates a series of new extensions and add-ins supporting Oracle jobs, SAP and VMware platforms, as well as expanded capabilities for the product’s Microsoft System Center Operations Manager (SCOM) Management Pack.

ActiveBatch, ASCI’s flagship product, offers an unparalleled ability to automate and centrally manage jobs and workflows across multiple and disparate operating systems, applications and environments.  Now used in 36 countries, ActiveBatch offers both an event-based architecture and an extensive Jobs Library containing a growing list of “production-ready” job steps.  ActiveBatch transforms job scheduling from a back-office function into a strategic corporate asset, reducing the cost of IT operations while improving service levels.

ActiveBatch V7’s Service Pack 2 further extends the scheduler’s strong interaction with leading enterprise applications and network elements.  A key element of Service Pack 2’s upgrade list is an expansion in the number and type of Oracle job steps; in addition to PL-SQL Block, the steps now include Get Job Status, Start Job, and Synchronize Job.  In addition, Service Pack 2 offers four new enhancements including:

Oracle Database Triggers.  Through a new SP2 extension, ActiveBatch offers users the ability to trigger plans and/or jobs when an Oracle database is altered.  The trigger can be based on an insert, update or deletion in the database; operations can be further refined based on table field specifications.  The Oracle Database Trigger facility requires no changes to the Oracle database itself.

SAP Process Scheduler Integration.  This add-in gives SAP users tighter integration with ActiveBatch.  Through their familiar SAP process scheduler interface, SAP customers can not only automate and manage workflows involving both SAP and non-SAP solutions and applications, but also enjoy greater functionality and cross-platform compatibility than through the present SAP batch scheduling component.  To ensure compatibility, ActiveBatch has been certified by SAP AG for integration with the SAP NetWeaver® technology platform.

VMware Integration.  ActiveBatch’s SP2 supports a set of VMware Job Steps that allow users and developers to easily deploy and maintain VMware virtual machines.  The extension replaces command line use and/or expensive scripting with a convenient drag-and-drop interface.  It also allows ActiveBatch plans and jobs to be executed based on the complete set of VMware events as well as the other event classes (i.e., WMI, Email, File Triggers, Web Services, etc.) currently supported by ActiveBatch.

Updated Microsoft System Center Operations Manager 2007 R2  Management Pack.  Service Pack 2 contains a newly updated extension for the monitoring of ActiveBatch Job Scheduling systems (including both the underlying services and databases) and Execution machines where jobs are executed using Microsoft SCOM 2007 r2 release.  Critical business processes can be monitored for success and/or for events and action(s) that should be taken if an alert is raised.  The ActiveBatch Management Pack discovers ActiveBatch machines, Windows and UNIX, and then includes them within the SCOM monitor.  Business-critical objects such as Execution Machines, Plans or Jobs can be monitored to ensure successful and timely execution.

“Advanced Systems Concepts commitment is to give users the power to manage the most complete range of workflows, regardless of the technology or standard involved,” said Jim Manias, Vice President of Marketing and Sales.  “This upgrade enables ActiveBatch to communicate within the scheduling and operating environments of some of the world’s leading enterprise-class software.  It’s a major step forward for users of these important platforms.”

ActiveBatch Version 7 SP2 is available by automatic upgrade for companies participating in the ActiveBatch Version Upgrade program.  The ActiveBatch Extensions are separately licensed; for more information about ActiveBatch V7 or Service Pack 2, log on to www.advsyscon.com.
