ActiveBatch® Job Scheduling supports over 30 different alerts and alert objects that are used to notify users and operations that a specified condition has been raised within a workflow. Jobs and Plans support the association of multiple alerts so notifications can be directed to the appropriate resource(s) for resolution. Each alert is deliverable using 17 different delivery methods that include email, writing to the event log, JMS and Microsoft Message Queues, SMS text messages, Twitter, SNMP, Office Communicator and more. As an example, alerts can be sent via e-mail to individual users or distribution lists and messages can contain attachments. Customizable alerts allow an organization to create complex workflows and communicate with the operator or user based on a particular event. ActiveBatch alerts support custom messages and subjects, where required, using ActiveBatch variables and log files to ensure that information about the job and information is presented.

In addition to specific IT-related events, ActiveBatch supports the monitoring and alerting of workflows whose completions are tied to an SLA or business policy. Users can select from a series of alert notifications to notify users of an impending SLA breach and select the appropriate action. For example, a user can set various alert "thresholds" that provide a user with different alerts (Warning, Critical and Take Action) that notify a user of a potential workflow breach to an SLA while providing the ability to take appropriate action. Additionally, ActiveBatch supports alerts for "Absolute" and "Relative" deadlines to enable workflows to be tied to specific date/time and business deadlines.

ActiveBatch supports the ability to trigger other jobs or workflows based on one of the alert conditions. This approach has been proven to reduce error rates by allowing business processes to take different branches based on the conditions raised.

ActiveBatch can contain multiple alerts within an ActiveBatch Alert Object. The Alert Object can then be associated with Jobs or Job Plans so that multiple alerts are delivered from the job, to the object, and then distributed to the various alerts contained within the object. Alert Objects within ActiveBatch make it easier for an organization to maintain and manage alerts by allowing a modification to the alert to update all of the associated jobs.

The ActiveBatch Alert View provides an interactive screen where alerts can be viewed and ownership taken by the operational staff to action and then close the event.

A powerful and flexible alerting system is an integral part of automation and is critical for operational success. The ability to resolve errors promptly will improve service levels and yield a positive return on investment.
