Redwood's proven approach to workload automation migration

Assess your ecosystem

Get a detailed analysis of your existing job data and leverage Redwood’s specialized migration tooling to ensure proper transfer.

This is an opportune time to evaluate and improve processes. Receive recommendations for job segmenting into self-contained job “packages,” the number and order of each agile migration sprint, a draft project plan with effort required and a list of additional optimization potentials.

Finalize job segmentation

The Redwood migration philosophy: Start with low-risk, low-complexity jobs, then increase complexity in each sprint. Next, discuss and finalize self-contained job segmentation “packages” and the number and order of controlled, agile sprints.

Examples of job segmentations include target applications, modules in systems of record, business units/geography, top-level process flows and technical job types.

Connect to your environment

This is the stage in which the Redwood team will install, set up and test all of your environments. The process includes authentication, single sign-on (SSO), user security, roles and authorizations, as well as defining naming conventions and object organization and enabling alerting functionality.

It’s when you’ll connect to all your systems, apps, APIs and databases to ensure fluid integration.

Enable confident operators

Ensure your team is fully up and running by equipping them with adequate training resources.

  • Practical training during migration: During the migration sprints and under our guidance, your teams will work within the platform, establishing their competence and confidence.
  • Instructor-led, on-site classes: Operators, engineers, administrators and end-users receive 10 hours of classroom education, broken down into five classes.
  • On-demand access to e-learning courses: Users immediately receive access to on-demand training through Redwood University to start building knowledge of the platform and tools in parallel. Certifications are available.

Launch via agile sprints and hyper-care

Your Redwood solution and legacy scheduling tool or workload automation platform will run in parallel.

  • Data conversion: Using migration tooling, pre-defined package workflows are copied, converted and meticulously analyzed against automation specifications.
  • Import to dev environment: Workflows are moved to your development environment, including job logic, dependencies and outcome validation.
  • Move to test environment: Workflows are moved to the test environment and deployed to ensure expected execution.
  • Go-live: Workflows are moved to the production environment.
  • Hyper-care: Processes are monitored to confirm successful execution.

"[The migration service] was hugely beneficial to us … because then we could walk through the ActiveBatch steps and understand how things from our old system would work in the new system."
